Psychotherapy in Mississauga

Maybe you feel anxious more often than you would like. Maybe a relationship keeps hurting in the same place, or something from the past still follows you. Or perhaps you simply want to understand yourself more honestly.

Whatever brings you here, you do not need to have it all figured out. Psychotherapy is a place to start understanding it, with someone who listens carefully.

When Something Keeps Returning

Many people come to psychotherapy after trying hard on their own. They have read, reflected, practised breathing or talked it through with friends. Sometimes that helps for a while.

But some things keep returning: the worry that switches on at night, the panic that arrives without warning, the argument that repeats with a partner, the grief that does not settle, the feeling of being stuck in the same pattern.

When something keeps returning, it is often asking for more attention, not less. As I often say, anxiety is not a malfunction. It is a message. The same can be true of many emotional struggles. Psychotherapy gives us the time and space to listen to that message together.

What Psychotherapy Is

Psychotherapy is a conversation with a purpose. In our sessions we slowly explore what you are experiencing: your thoughts and feelings, your relationships, what happens in your body, and the experiences that may have shaped you.

It is not a quick fix or a single technique applied to everyone. We work at your pace, paying attention to what lies beneath the surface, so that change can grow from real understanding rather than force.

Some people come for a specific concern. Others come because life feels heavier than it should and they are not sure why. Both are good reasons to begin.

What We Can Work On

Anxiety Therapy

For worry, overthinking, tension and the feeling of always being on guard. We explore what the anxiety may be pointing to, not only how to quiet it.

Depression Therapy

For low mood, loss of interest, emotional heaviness and feeling disconnected. We explore what may be happening underneath and what may be contributing to how you feel now.

Individual Psychotherapy

One-to-one space for stress, emotional patterns, grief, life changes and the wish to understand yourself more deeply.

Couples Counselling

For couples caught in the same arguments, distance or broken trust, who want to understand what keeps happening between them.

Somatic Psychotherapy

Attention to what the body feels and holds, alongside thoughts and emotions, at a pace that feels safe.

Panic Attack and Panic Disorder Therapy

For sudden waves of fear, the body sensations that come with them, and the worry about the next one.

Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy

A careful, paced approach for difficult or painful experiences, where your sense of safety comes first.

Online Psychotherapy

Private video sessions for individuals and couples anywhere in Ontario.

How I Work

When someone comes to see me, my first question is not “Which technique should I use?” It is “What is this person experiencing, and what might it mean?”

My work is informed by psychotherapy and psychoanalytic thinking, a trauma-informed way of working, and close attention to how emotions show up in the body. I listen to the whole story: the symptoms, the relationships, the history and the present.

The aim is not to fight parts of yourself, but to understand them. Often that understanding is where real change begins.

Psychotherapy or Anxiety Coaching?

I offer two different kinds of support, and it helps to know which one fits.

Psychotherapy is regulated clinical work with a Registered Psychotherapist. It is the right place for anxiety or panic that affects daily life, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, or emotional pain that feels hard to carry.

Anxiety Coaching is separate, non-clinical work focused on education, personal growth and practical ways of relating to everyday anxiety. It suits people who are generally coping well and want to understand their anxiety and build new habits.

If you are not sure which is right for you, ask me. We can talk it through before you decide. Learn about Anxiety Coaching →

FAQ

1. What is psychotherapy, and what happens in a session?

Psychotherapy is a regulated form of talk-based care. In a session we talk about what you are experiencing and explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships and body responses at your own pace. The first session is mostly about understanding what brings you and what you hope for.

2. What concerns do you work with?

Anxiety, panic, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, emotional patterns, life changes and the wish to understand yourself more deeply. If you are unsure whether your concern fits, you are welcome to ask.

3. Is there a difference between a therapist and a psychotherapist?

Yes. In Ontario, “psychotherapist” is a protected title for regulated professionals, such as members of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. “Therapist” is a general word and is not regulated on its own. It is always reasonable to ask a practitioner which college they belong to.

4. What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychotherapist?

Both are regulated mental health professionals in Ontario and both may provide psychotherapy. Psychologists are trained in psychological assessment and, within their scope of practice, can communicate certain mental health diagnoses. Registered Psychotherapists focus on psychotherapy and do not independently communicate a diagnosis as part of their regulated scope. The right choice depends on what kind of support or assessment you need, and some people work with both.

5. How much does a psychotherapist charge in Ontario?

Fees differ between practitioners and depend on the type of session. With me, you are welcome to start with a free 15-minute introductory phone consultation, where we can go over current fees, session frequency and whether my approach may be a good fit. Receipts are provided for insurance.

6. Is psychotherapy covered by insurance?

Receipts are provided for psychotherapy sessions. Coverage varies by insurance plan, so please check whether your extended health benefits include services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist.

7. Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. You can book psychotherapy with me directly, without a doctor’s referral. Some insurance plans may still require a referral for reimbursement, so it is worth checking your plan.

8. Do you offer online psychotherapy across Ontario?

Yes. Online sessions take place by secure video for people located in Ontario, for both individuals and couples.

9. What is the difference between psychotherapy and Anxiety Coaching?

Psychotherapy is regulated clinical work with a Registered Psychotherapist. Anxiety Coaching is separate, non-clinical work focused on education and practical ways of relating to everyday anxiety. If you are not sure which fits, we can talk it through.

10. Where is your Mississauga office and how do I request an appointment?

The office is at Suite 201, 4299 Village Centre Court, Mississauga, ON L4Z 1S2. To request an appointment, use the contact form or call (905) 781-8194. All sessions are by appointment.
